Human Rights in Pakistan: 52nd Session of UNHRC

Geneva, Switzerland. March 28, 2023

IRESK in collaboration with TUMUKU DEVELOPMENT & CULTURAL UNION (TACUDU) and PTM Europe organised a Side event/Conference on the sidelines of 52nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council at Geneva, Switzerland with the topic “Human Rights situation in Pakistan“. Eminent international experts, academics, community leaders, researchers and former diplomats deliberated in details in particular on– Enforced Disappearances, Extra-Judicial Killings, Arbitrary Detentions &Torture of Pashtun ethnic minority in Pakistan. PTM leader Manzoor Ahmad Pashteen in his speech through online media urged international Community particularly United Nations to play its role in stopping the genocide and exploitation of its resources by Pakistan. He further elaborated and said that in the name of Security, the state of Pakistan looted and plundered the resources of Pashtun Land.
Pakistan Army planted landmines which are killing our women and children.
There is complete media black out in Ex-FATA. The only source of information is DG ISPR. There is no media in our region and those journalists who contradict the official version of information are killed. The so called war on terrorism was actually a war against Pashtun nation. Pashtuns were used as scapegoats and as gun fodder for a war to earn dollars from the West. PTM which is a voice for peace and against terrorism is attacked by the state of Pakistan while making deals with TTP. PTM leaders and activists were extra-judicial killed like Arman Loni, they were detained arbitrarily like Ali Wazir and tortured. The funds that International Community particularly Western countries are giving to Pakistan are used against Pashtuns. There is no check and accountability on how these funds are used.

According to IRESK 75,000 civilians from ethnic Pashtun minority have been killed, 32000 are missing and 3.5 million people have been internally displaced during different time periods since 9/11 in the so-called war on terror in Pakistan. War crimes & Crimes against humanity were committed and still continue with impunity by Pakistan army in Ex-FATA, now merged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

The conference was moderated by Fazal-ur Rehman AFRIDI—Principal Representative at United Nations of TUMUKU Development & Cultural Union (ECOSOC), President of Khyber Institute for Research & Strategic Studies, France (IRESK), Human Rights Activist, writer & Journalist.
