Pashtuns hold world-wide protests to condemn arbitrary arrest of Ali Wazir

Paris-France, December 19, 2020:(IRESK)

Pashtuns held world wide protests in Pakistan, neighbouring Afghanistan and all around the world to express their anger and dismay on the arbitrary detention of Ali Wazir, an MNA and leader of PTM advocating the rights of the country’s ethnic Pashtun minority.

Manzoor Ahmad Pashteen, the central leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), announced world wide protests and demonstration in a live video message to PTM workers and Pashtun Diaspora to condemn this fascist act of the state of Pakistan.

In view of covid-19 restrictions, Pashtun-Afghan Diaspora in Europe & US will organised virtuel protests & Conferences to condemn this fascist act of Pakistan and devise its future strategy at international level to raise this issue with force to protect the basic fundamental freedoms of Pashtuns as guaranteed by the United Nations.

According to reports, the FIR against Ali Wazir and other PTM activists was registered by Sindh police on December 7, 2020 on charges of hatching a criminal conspiracy and passing derogatory remarks against state institutions. The case was registered under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups), 505-B (statements for inducing a person to commit offence against state), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 188 (disobeying order of public servant) of the Pakistan Penal Code. However, PTM rejected the charges as fake and baseless and called these tactics as “fascists” to stop PTM workers from defending the rights of Pashtuns.

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari , the Chairman of PPP, condemned the arrest of Ali Wazir by stating that “it has been the modus operandi of the fascist governments to implicate the elected representatives in false cases to crush the public voice”. We strongly condemn the arrest of Ali Wazir, a Member of Parliament on concocted charges.

Maryam Nawaz, the Vice-President of PML N also condemned the lawmaker’s arrest. “It will cause cracks in Pakistan’s unity; we are all equal Pakistanis,” she said.

Howerver, people from different sections of society including political analysts, journalists and members of civil society condemned this arrest and termed it illegal and arbitrary. Through such fascist acts, the Pakistan Military Establishment is trying to deprive its citizens of freedom of expression & the right to Assembly. PTM resolved that it will raise the issue at international fora like @UN. Recently, International Human rights organisations have accused Pakistan of gross human rights violations like Enforced disappearances, Arbitrary detentions and torture. Several PTM activists are booked by Federal Investigation Agency on charges of sedition and cybercrimes.
