Children living under Terror in Pakistan-Monthly Report (January 2013)
The children and their schools seems to be the main targets of the terrorists in 2013 as more than 9 children were killed and 11 injured in different terrorists attacks while more than 11 schools bombed in different parts of the North-Western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and the adjacent tribal region named FATA in the month of January.
2012 was the bloodiest year for Pakistan’s Shia community in living memory and if this latest attack [January 10 attacks] is any indication, 2013 has started on an even more dismal note,” said Ali Dayan Hasan, Pakistan director at HRW. The Government’s persistent failure to protect the minority Shia community from sectarian attacks by Sunni militant groups, is reprehensible and amounts to complicity in the slaughter of Pakistani citizens, HRW said. “As Shia community members continue to be slaughtered in cold blood, the callousness and indifference of authorities offers a damning indictment of the state, its military and security agencies,” he added. In 2012, well over 400 members of the Shia population were killed in targeted attacks. Over 120 of these were killed in Balochistan Province.
Pakistan is still a major destination for radicalised Muslims bent on a life of jihad, despite hundreds of US drone strikes, the death of al Qaeda Osama bin Laden and the fracturing of al Qaeda. New battlegrounds have sprung up in Africa and the Middle East, but the number of foreign recruits smuggled into the north western tribal belt is increasing and they come from more diverse countries. Since the 1980s jihad to expel Soviet troops from Afghanistan, Muslim fighters from all over the world have lived and trained on the Afghan-Pakistan border, moulded into al Qaeda and a host of spin-off militant networks. The terrorists attacks against polio workers continue as a bomb blast killed two polio vaccination workers in Mali Khel village in Kurram Agency.
At least five persons, including two women and two children, were killed and nine others were injured when helicopter gunships shelled targets in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan Agency of FATA. The helicopter gunships attacked targets in Hassamkhel, Haiderkhel, Inzar, Aipee and Khushal Toorikhel villages in Mir Ali.
The terrorists are constantly changing their tactics and methods to terrorise and dissuade children from going to schools. In such a new attempt, the terrorists exploded explosive devices planted under two school buses near Chota Lahore in Swabi District. The explosive devices, concealed in edible oil tins, were planted under the buses parked outside Quaid-e-Azam International Model School.
Six persons were killed when unknown miscreants (Taliban) opened fire on a van carrying NGO employees namedWorking Solutions (SWWS) organization, working on health and educationat Link Road in Swabi on Tuesday, Geo News reported. According to DPO Swabi, six persons including five female teachers named Zahida, Rahila, Asmiat, Gul Naz, Shohrat, and Naila Naz a nurse of an NGO were killed and one was injured when unidentified gunmen attacked the van at Link Road. The house of an anti-polio worker was partially damaged in a blast apparently carried out by militants at Vermando Mela in Jamrud tehsil in Khyber Agency FATA. BARA: Two girl students were killed and five others were injured when they were hit by a mortar shell in Akakhel area of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency on Tuesday. The sources said a group of girl students were on way to their homes after attending a class in a madrassa in Kalanga area when a mortar shell fired from an undisclosed location exploded near them. Two students were killed and five others injured in the explosion.
MIRANSHAH: Three persons, including a worker of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and two local villagers, were killed and 13 others sustained injuries in a blast and subsequent shelling by the Pakistan Army gunship helicopters and long-range artillery guns in North Waziristan Agency, on Tuesday

Peshawar: Five students received minor injuries slightly when an explosive device went off at University of Peshawar in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. About one kilogram of explosives were used in the blast occurred in the conference hall of Institute of Islamic and Arabic Studies, UoP, Campus Police Station SHO Saidullah Afirdi said.

BARA: A child named Hazratullah was injred when a shell fell on the house of Motaber Khan.
Quetta: A blast killed a child and injured another person in Brewery road area of Quetta (Quetta District), the provincial capital of Balochistan in the night. Wazir Khan Nasar, the Deputy Inspector General said that the militants planted an improvised explosive device near an internet cafe in Brewery road area. “The blast killed a passerby child and injured another person,” he said.

QUETTA: A boy has been killed in a bomb blast in the Golimar roundabout area of the city on Saturday night. Police sources said that miscreants had planted an explosive device outside an internet cafe that exploded. As a result, a six-year-old boy namely Ghulam Nabi was killed in the explosion. 20-01-2013
BARA: The bullet-riddled body of a labourer was found in a private school building in Shalobar area of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency on Saturday. The sources said that Muhammad Jamil,16, hailing from Qambarkhel Afridi tribe ,was the only bread winner for his family. He had had gone to Alamgudar for work three days back. Belonging to a poor family, Jamil had left school as grade nine student and started work as a labourer in Alamgudar area of Bara last year, the sources added.

A Government school was blown up in Mashokhel village ofNWA in the night. Police officials in the area said the militants bombed the school by placing explosives at the building of the Government High School Mashokhel located the jurisdiction of the Badaber Police Station. The explosion was triggered with a remote-controlled device that destroyed three rooms and caused cracks in other parts of the building.
Explosives planted at the building of a private school in Hassan Garhi of Peshawar went off. The explosion was heard in many parts of the provincial capital.

PESHAWAR: Unknown men blew up a girls’ primary school with explosives in Budh Bair area of Peshawar, Geo News reported Saturday. According to police, unidentified culprits had planted explosives material near the main gate of the school that went off with a big bang. As a result of explosion, the school building was badly damaged while it flattened two classrooms completely.
